John McCain has split with his party once again and continued to show us why he should not be the Republican nominee.

During an interview on CNN’s Larry King Live, Senator John McCain suggested that Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez should resign.

“I am very disappointed in his performance,” McCain, R-Ariz., said Wednesday when asked about the attorney general in an interview with CNN’s Larry King. “I think loyalty to the president should enter into his calculations.”

When pressed about whether Gonzales should resign, McCain responded: “I think that out of loyalty to the president that that would probably be the best thing that he could do.” –McCain: Gonzales Should Resign, April 26, 2007

While there have been several Republicans that have criticized Gonzales’ performance, very few have come out asking him to step down.

The Republicans need a strong leader that will unite the party, a leader who will defend his own. John McCain has shown too much willingness to go against his party. Here are a few issues in which Senator McCain has caused division in the Republican party and joined with liberals - McCain - Feingold campaign finance reform, McCain - Kennedy immigration reform, McCain - Lieberman Global Warming policy. Other of McCains initiatives have angered Republicans as well such as his objection to Bush tax cuts and his whining about interrogation tactics.

These are undoubtedly the reasons that McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign is failing. The peoples distaste for McCain doesn’t have to do with his support for the effort in Iraq as the liberal media would have you believe.
Mitt Romney must learn from McCains errors and convince the Republican party that he will be the tough uniter of the Republican party. We must become one to wield power and enact change.
