Greta Van Susteren interviewed Mitt Romney and his wife Ann Romney for the April 23, 2007 edition of Fox News’ On the Record. The main issues of discussion were immigration and healthcare. Van Susteren also delves into their personal lives as she asks the couple how they met and began their relationship.
If I could describe the immigration plan that Mitt Romney proposes, I would call it a two-tiered plan. First of all he supports the construction of a fence whether it be a physical fence or an electronic one. This would stem the flow of immigrants on our southern border and also discourage foreigners from seeking illegal entry into our country via Mexico. Secondly, Mitt Romney proposes a national worker identification card. This would be a computerized system to identify which immigrants are eligible to work and which ones are not. Companies that hire illegal immigrants would be subject to penalties. With such a system in place, illegal immigrants would be less willing to come to the U.S. being uncertain that they could find employment.
Here it is in the governor’s own words.
