YouTube’s You Choose ‘08 Spotlight on Mitt Romney
April 14th, 2007 by eric
YouTube has a special feature called “The Spotlight” where each presidential candidate will spend a week trying to engage other YouTube users in a video dialogue. Governor Romney was asked to present a video in which he poses a question. The YouTube patrons that have viewed his question will post video responses. Mitt Romney is the first candidate to be presented in the Spotlight. Please click here to participate.
I’ve looked over “The Spotlight” very well and I’ll be posting my commentary and analysis at the bottom of this post just below the video.
Ever wanted to speak with the future President of the United States? Using the power of YouTube, you can! Announcing the newest phase of our You Choose ’08 platform, the Spotlight. Starting today, every Presidential candidate will have one week in the Spotlight on our News & Politics page, where they’ll be available to engage YouTube users in a video dialogue. Here’s how it works: Candidates will post a video asking the YouTube community a question, and you’ll have a week to upload response videos. The candidates will monitor your reply videos and, before the week is through, will post another video reflecting on what they’ve seen.
This is your chance to engage the leaders who are competing for the most powerful position in the country. Let them know what you think and keep an eye on their replies. This is a great chance to get to know the candidates better by speaking across the level platform that is politics on YouTube.
So who’s first in the Spotlight? Watch the video below or go to the News & Politics page and check out the top video…then post your response videos. The more thoughtful and creative the better — see if you can get the candidates to respond directly to your issues and ideas. –You Choose ‘08 Spotlight: Mitt Romney, April 11, 2007
((YouTube embedded video, “What do you believe is America’s single greatest challenge?”))
Mitt Romney’s question, “What do you believe is America’s single greatest challenge?” has recieved 38 video responses so far.
I took the time to view all 38 video responses in their entirety and I am sitting here absolutely stupefied by what I have just seen and heard. Most of the responses are so unusual, it would be a real challenge for Governor Romney to reply back to them individually. I pity him for having the task. Perhaps Mitt should respond to all of the videos in a single response while mentioning many of the usernames to give it a more personalized feel.
Many of the responders are not answering the question properly. Instead of responding with the SINGLE greatest challenge, most of the responders are spewing out a whole grocery list of issues that are near and dear to their hearts. The answers range from animal rights, to getting us out of the U.N., to net neutrality, thrown in with the issues of the day like immigration, education, and taxes. Some responses are the ramblings of drunken buffoons and others are well thought out and read from a pre-prepared text on the screen. Some responders offer advice to Mitt Romney. Others don’t even bother to answer the question but instead their “video response” is posing a question back to Governor Romney.
The only positive thing I see there on “The Spotlight” is that it seems to me that a good portion of the responders are younger Democrats or left leaning Republicans. It helps to fuel my hope that Mitt Romney will receive support from Republicans as well as some Democrats. The (supposed) Democrat responders appear to be open to Mitt Romney and are willing to listen to what he has to say.

I read some of the posts and I think it is a great place! Be nice to my tart exam Oh, good joke) What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don’t know and I don’t care.
