The Electronic Campaign, Mitt Romney is Playing it Well
March 20th, 2007 by eric
Certain “web stats” such as MySpace friends and YouTube views, seem to indicate that Mitt Romney is in second place among Republicans, trailing only behind Rudy Giuliani. Internet marketing professionals and bloggers alike have been looking to these internet indicators in order to gauge the popularity of the 2008 presidential candidates.
Mindy Finn is the former internet director of Rick Santorum’s 2006 Senate campaign and former deputy director of e-campaigns for the Republican National Committee. She also served as Deputy Webmaster for Bush-Cheney ‘04, where she facilitated email outreach and online grassroots activism. She was also a contributor to TechPresident which tracks the types of stats that I mentioned in my opening paragraph.
Of all the people Mitt Romney has brought to his presidential campaign — be it Matt Rhoades, Carl Forti or Kevin Madden — the key piece of the puzzle could be Mindy Finn, who is heading to Boston to serve as Romney’s director of eStrategy.
Finn brings to the team much experience, having worked for Sen. Rick Santorum’s re-election effort, the Republican National Committee and Bush-Cheney ‘04. What do each have in common? A savvy web operation that tied together strategy, finance, communications and political components. –Romney hires veteran online veteran, March 8, 2007
A piece of Finn’s newest work is the new MySpace profile for Mitt Romney. It’s here http://www.myspace.com/mittromney In that MySpace profile are links to Mitt’s Facebook profile and his YouTube channel, as well as his official site. Romney’s MySpace profile is a part of a new MySpace effort called “MySpace Impact” which you might describe as a landing page with 2008 presidential candidates’ MySpace profiles.
The TechPresident website does a good job at monitoring these types of things. Here is an example of a graph prepared by them showing YouTube views for the Republicans. Rudy Giuliani is the turquoise line. Mitt Romney is the dark green.

Currently Rudy Giuliani YouTube views are at 41,217. I think it would be much higher if he included this fine performance…

Mitt Romney views are at 24,426. Of course these are views of “official” videos. Romney currently has 60 videos. About twenty of these are new, just added within the past three days. They are endorsements from various political figures. Please see Mitt’s official YouTube channel here http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=GovMittRomney
