Mitt Romney Raising Money at a Furious Pace
March 19th, 2007 by eric
Mitt Romney needs money. Well, he doesn’t really need money. He does have a personal fortune estimated to be a half billion dollars. What I should say is that Mitt Romney for President, Inc. needs money. This is the campaign fund that will support the most expensive presidential campaign in history. It is predicted that the Republican nominee as well as the Democratic nominee will need to spend as much as $500 million each before election day in order to compete.
When the reports come out, Mitt Romney expects to make a good showing. A report that shows a tremendous amount of money raised will bring a lot of publicity in the news media. Such media reports help to elevate Romney’s name recognition nationally. A high number also says many things about the candidate. It says that he has a very broad appeal to a lot of voters who have each donated money. It also says that the candidate has the financial strength and fundraising prowess to put up a fight and to go the distance. If April’s report shows that Mitt Romney for President, Inc. has raised more than the John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and other Republican campaigns, it will be a great victory.
Romney has scheduled 20 fundraising events this month, all ahead of that end of the month reporting deadline.
Some campaigns have set goals of $15 million to $20 million dollars. Mitt Romney should be able to reach the $15 million mark. He raised $6.5 million on his first day. Romney’s campaign has also announced that it has raised at least $1.4 million from internet donations.
