YouTube Turns on Political Channels, Their Political Blog Coming Soon
March 7th, 2007 by eric
The Google owned company YouTube has created a political section where all of the 2008 candidates will have their own “channel”. The new feature is called YouChoose ‘08. The main page is here… http://youtube.com/youchoose
I’ll be working as YouTube’s News & Politics Editor and couldn’t have arrived at a better time – we just launched “You Choose 08″, a central hub of channels created by Presidential candidates for 2008. Check out behind-the-scenes footage from the campaigns, and make your own response videos to what these Presidential hopefuls are saying… This is your chance to interact directly with the candidates and tell them exactly what you think.
We’ve got a lot to come before November ‘08. Soon I’ll be launching the YouTube political blog in which I’ll be highlighting must-see videos from candidates and users, and offering my own spin on the election as it unfolds on YouTube. –Westward, Ho! Mitt Romney’s YouTube channel is here… http://youtube.com/profile?user=GovMittRomney
If you could say that views of the respective channels somehow correlates to a candidate’s popularity, then it’s worth a look at the numbers.
YouTube Views
Barack Obama 73,212
John Edwards 24,099
Hillary Clinton 23,219
Rudy Giuliani 12,432
Mitt Romney 10,594
Bill Richardson 8,224
John McCain 7,625
Dennis Kucinich 5,380
Joseph Biden 4,864

I don’t see the value of the “channels” approach. To me it’s just more campaign commercials. I would rather see an organization that directly compares one candidate with another on the issues, in their own words. Specifically:
