Mitt Romney was back in Boston today where he hosted a $1,000 per plate fundraising event. The event has reportedly been very successful and the total for the event has surpassed one million dollars.

Romney has been campaigning at a fast and furious pace over the last three days. Immediately following his announcement speech on Tuesday, Mitt left for Iowa, and then flew back to Dearborn on the same day for a fundraiser that the organizers hoped would bring in $400,000. On Wednesday, Romney visited South Carolina, and was scheduled for an event New Hampshire that was reportedly canceled due to a snowstorm.

Although we don’t have a running total of funds raised, what we do know is that 6.5 million was reported as the first day fundraising total. 1.4 million was reported to have been collected via the www.mittromney.com website over the last month or so. And one million was collected at today’s fundraising event in Boston. That means that Romney has raised at least 8.9 million.

Mitt is running against two national heroes in John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Right now he is suffering in the polls due to low name recognition. He’s going to need those funds to get his name out there and eventually rise above McCain and Giuliani.
