“Romneycare” vs. “Hillarycare”

Whereas Mitt Romney could present a health care plan that trumps Hillary’s plan in that Romney has implemented it already, and shown that it can be successful, Giuliani and McCain might struggle to win over skeptics with their own versions.

Health care is beginning to emerge as the number one domestic issue in the 2008 campaign. Lately the Republicans have embraced this issue and even grabbed the spotlight with this issue that you might say has been borrowed from the Democrat’s agenda. President Bush presented his health care plan in his State of the Union Address just last night. In California, Republican Governor Schwarzenegger has been promoting his new health care plan all over the state. And Californians are listening. Though I believe the state of Maine under a Democrat governor was one of the first to bring about a sweeping health care plan called Dirigo Health in 2003 that captured attention, Mitt Romney’s solution in Massachusetts certainly helped to bring the issue to the forefront leading up to the 2008 general election.

If Mrs. Clinton is going to win the Democratic primaries and continue with her emphasis on health care, who better to face off with her than Mitt Romney?

“We did something to solve the problem,” he (House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi) said.

The same message might provide a political boost to Romney, who is considering a presidential run in 2008. By proving he can work with Democrats, and find a health-care solution that relies on the private sector, Romney can portray himself as an executive who can work across the aisle in harshly partisan times. –The Washington Post, April 5, 2006
