Democrats Word Play
January 18th, 2007 by eric
In the headlines today I’m looking at an article titled, “Gonzales defends Bush’s revised domestic spying”. It reminds me that in recent years that Democrats have become masters of “word play”, the use of political language as propaganda in the P.R. war against Republicans and the Republican agenda.
Another great example is the utiliztion of the technique by John Kerry and those liberal institutions that protected him when he shamefully insulted all of America’s armed forces.
((embedded YouTube video of Kerry’s insult))
CNN called it “misinterpreted words”. John Kerry himself called it a “botched joke”, and later referred to it as a “verbal slip”. I have just one question for John Kerry. Just what was the punch line supposed to be? Please tell us!
We as Republicans must learn to utilize this rebranding tactic as well as the Democrats use it. We must produce the best word magic that we can muster at this critical time in history. And we can start immediately with the so called “war in Iraq” that is miring us politically. If I hear another Democrat say that we can’t win the war in Iraq I’m going to go crazy. I mean can’t we just back our troops off and launch over a few nuclear weapons? Yes we can win in this manner. But back to my point. We must immediately, to save ourselves, rebrand the “war in Iraq” to what it really is, “the restructuring in Iraq”, or the “peacekeeping in Iraq”. Is that not what it really is anyway? Where are the damned U.N. Peacekeepers when we need them? We must reconfirm to the people of the United States of America that we have already won this war. It began 19 March, 2003 with an air strike called a “decapitation attack”. On the 7th of April, 2003 our ground forces invaded the capital of Iraq. British forces had captured roughly 80 percent of Iraq’s biggest city Basra. By the 14th of April, 2003, all major battles had ended and coalition forces occupied and controlled every major city in the country. Folks, that is a victory! We won in Iraq! We already achieved victory in Iraq! It took less than one month to defeat their armed forces and occupy and control their lands. Let’s emphasize that history and let that history restore a little pride in the hearts of Americans and our military.
Whether we choose to call it now “restructuring”, or “peacekeeping” we must remind the American people that we do not have a force that is built for this task. We must leave behind the word play “war in Iraq” and use it ONLY as it pertains to the air and ground assault from 19 March 2003, to 14 April, 2003. We must remind the American people that we have already been victorious. We must remind the American people that we continue to hunt terrorists in Iraq and that Iraq is only one front of that war. We must remind the American people that this war on terror will endure on many fronts for perhaps 30 years or more. But this one thing is for sure, that we must rebrand and redefine what is happening in Iraq. If we don’t, Republican chances for victory in 2008 may be at risk.

Won the war? No, we just started a civil war that we cannot in any way control.
You might want to check Frank Luntz’s recent book, if you think you’re so clever with “magic word play.” He had the idea long before you did. (Note that Condi Rice kept referring to the escalation /”surge” as an “augmentation.”
Boy, that makes a big difference.)
And let me just add that your idea to back off the troops and launch over[sic] (as opposed to launch “under”?) a few nuclear weapons is an excellent one! Can’t imagine how many hearts & minds that’ll win in the world.
John Kerry’s punch line was that if you don’t get a good education and learn a few things you’ll end up like George Bush, stuck in a quagmire in Iraq. He simply missed saying “George Bush” and said “you’ll end up stuck in Iraq,” so your friends with their “magic word play” jumped all over an obvious misinterpretation (or is that “misunderestimation,” as GWB so cleverly put it? There’s someone who has a “magic” way with words.)
Good luck with your hopes for perpetual war (1984 style) and Mormon theocracy!
